Who is the course for?
In addition to those exposed to micro-organisms intentionally at work, the HSE lists the following occupations as being susceptible to infection due to the type of work beingcarried out: porters, cleaners, police, anyone in a health care environment, hairdressers,nurses, tattooists, farmers, refuse collectors, food handlers and caterers.

Minimum Entry Requirements:
16+ years of age.

Certification:
Certificate of attendance. Issued by the Ambulance Service and valid for one year.

Duration:
Half day.

Class Size:
Student / Instructor ratio of 12:1.

Who delivers it?
Commercial Ambulance Instructor.

Description:
The aim of this session is to raise awareness of how poor hand hygiene and ineffective use of universal precautions can contribute to the spread of infection.

  • Understand basic microbiology and routes of transmission.
  • Develop safe practice for your area.
  • Understand communicable diseases.
  • Understand universal precaution.
  • Best use personal protective equipment.
  • Understand and be able to use correct procedures for decontamination and spillages.
  • Understand and use effective techniques in infection control.
