Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre has been nominated for two Surrey Police Officer of the Year Awards. The awards are presented by the Surrey Board of Trade to recognize the outstanding contributions of the Surrey RCMP and the collaboration with Surrey’s business community to keep Surrey a safe place in which to work and live.
Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre is a finalist in the Police and Business Partnership Award category. Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre provides services to children and youth victims of sexual, mental and physical abuse. These services are provided in a one-stop, child-friendly setting to minimize trauma. The hardworking team at Sophie’s Place CAC provided services and support in this unique setting to over 200 of Surrey’s vulnerable children and youth in 2015.
Sophie’s Place CAC’s multi-disciplinary team is a collaboration between Surrey RCMP, the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development, BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, City of Surrey and The Centre for Child Development.
Sgt. Lyndsay O’Ruairc, who leads the Sophie’s Place CAC RCMP Special Victims Unit Team, has been nominated for Police Officer of the Year. Sgt. O’Ruairc provides exemplary service to reduce the trauma experienced by children and youth who have been abused. She leads the Sophie’s Place CAC Multi-disciplinary team on the mission “to provide fully integrated teams within the community whose focus is on the total wellness of children, with emphasis on protection, investigation, family support, preventative measures and education.”
Sgt. Lyndsay O’Ruairc truly embraces the need to ensure the police are engaged and using integrated approaches to providing services to our community. Her ultimate focus is the long term care and support to the vulnerable children of our community.
The Surrey Police Officer of the Year Awards are presented at this celebratory event on October 6, 2016.
