Supported Child Development

Ensuring children that need extra support can fully participate in inclusive neighbourhood childcare programs

Our Supported Child Development (SCD) team supports children living in Surrey with a developmental delay or disability, focusing on early intervention to enable full participation in inclusive community childcare programs.

SCD provides the following services to support children, families, and childcare providers:

  • Individual planning to promote each child’s development
  • Training and information for families and childcare providers to help each child’s development
  • Resources such as books and specialized equipment
  • Referrals to other service such as therapists or specialists
  • Where necessary, additional staffing to ensure that children may participate fully with their peers

Who’s eligible?*

  • Children ages 0-19 living in Surrey, White Rock

*Please note the emphasis of this program is on early childhood development for children under 6 years of age, as this is the optimal time for child development. Children 7-12 years of age, are a continued priority, and youth 13-19 will continue to be served on an individual basis.

Our Approach

The F-words emphasize your child's strengths, interests and your family's values. They remind us to focus on what children CAN do.

They highlight the importance of all the elements of a child's health and well-being, including social relationships and meaningful participation at home, in school, childcare and in the community.

Based on research & built on the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Framework. www.canchild.ca/f-words
